While Smart Compasses should have a GPS fix within 15 minutes - often less - time to acquire a GPS fix is dependent on several factors, including atmospheric conditions and weather, blockage to clear sky such as trees or buildings, localized radio interference, and distance traveled while the device was in standby or otherwise not receiving location; any of these things can increase the time it takes for a fix to be achieved. Once your Smart Compass has found enough GPS satellites, it will continue to update its location throughout usage with virtually no delay.
This video will guide you through connecting your Smart Compass to GPS.
