The accuracy of each LynQ unit is affected by GPS and its internal compass. Short answer: Your LynQ is accurate within about 16.5 feet.
Your LynQ has a number of features designed to optimize accuracy when it is in normal use. Simply clip a LynQ onto each of your companions, venture out under the open sky and play some 'hide and seek' to experience LynQ.
GPS satellites are operated by the US Government and broadcast their signals in space with a certain accuracy, but what you receive depends on additional factors, including the number of GPS satellites the unit is able to see in your exact location, signal blockage, atmospheric conditions, etc.
For example, GPS-enabled smartphones are typically accurate to within a 16.5 feet (5 meters) radius under open sky. However, their accuracy worsens when signals are blocked by buildings, bridges, and trees.
LynQ utilizes the same GPS data, so you can expect the same 16.5 feet (5 meters) accuracy for each LynQ unit under the same conditions. However, when 2 LynQs are locating one another, the variance in accuracy can potentially double to up to 33 feet (10 meters), as described in the picture below.
It’s important to note that, because accuracy of GPS data received varies depending on your location, conditions and GPS satellite geometry, the accuracy of your LynQ may vary as well.
Each LynQ includes a compass that works alongside its GPS to provide users with the distance and direction of the members of your group. Like all compasses, the compass in LynQ is sensitive to electromagnetic fields or proximity to large metal objects. When using LynQ it is best to keep your unit it 6-8 inches from your cell phone, avoid reading when placed on metal surfaces (such as the hood of a car) and take into account large metal or magnetic structures (such as powerlines or skyscrapers) that may influence the accuracy of the compass at any given location.
LynQ UX : Your people are “nearby”
We designed LynQ for groups of people who are looking for each other. We have found that the best tool for a person to find someone just a few feet from you is to simply look around. Because of this, your LynQ screen will switch from distance and direction to “Nearby [Name]” when you are within 28 feet of your selected companion.
